What is this?

This is an single issue coalition currently made up of a group of concerned neighbors, local to the New Brighton and St George waterfront, who have been plagued with the mismanagement of the Empire Outlets and former wheel site since the early 2000s.

What are we asking for?

In no particular order:

  1. Ensure that the Empire Outlets space is used effectively and serves the community it exists in.

  2. To demand a Community Benefits Agreement be required between our Alliance and any future developers to the referenced waterfront sites when redevelopment plans begin. We ask that the NYCEDC and Mayor Mamdani’s office stand by our side in these efforts.

  3. For transparency and inclusion of those who live nearby in the real conversations that decide the future of this project.

Why should I care?

If you live in Staten Island, then you should know that whatever the outcome of this redevelopment is, it sets the standard for what Staten Islanders will accept going forward.

If you live in New York City, then you should know that these waterfront sites are connected to the rest of New York City via 2 NYC Ferry Routes and the Staten Island Ferry. These routes directly connect Staten Island with Battery Park City, Midtown West 39th St, FiDi, Bay Ridge, DUMBO, and Wall St Pier 11, all within at most a 30 minute ride!

The easiest and free way to help our cause would be to talk about it with others! Another free way would be to take the Staten Island ferry over and see the waterfront for yourself! Make a day of it, we have a beautiful view of the city that gets even more stunning at sunset.
