Site 1: The Empire Outlets
Located at 55 Richmond Terrace.
Originally built to attract and serve tourists who ride the nearby ferry, this space featured mostly large clothing stores.
Currently, the Empire Outlets are operating at less than half capacity.
The NYCEDC has recently announced that they will request a zoning change to build housing and allow other types of stores to move in that would better serve the community they plan to bring,
However in the meantime, we ask for better management of the leasing of outlets space to serve the community that already lives here.
55 Richmond Terrace is a city owned property, with a land lease currently owned and managed by Goldman Sachs as the lender in possession.
Goldman Sachs has yet to make a public effort to communicate with the local community to collaborate and discuss this site’s success. We patiently await to collaborate with them on these matters.
Site 2: The Former New York Wheel Site
Located at 75 Richmond Terrace
This site has been an active construction zone for the past 15 years. An ugly green fence blocks our view of the water.
Beyond that fence is an even uglier building. Meant to be a parking garage and entrance to the world’s largest ferris wheel, it instead sits empty while bureaucratic powers keep its fate in limbo.
